Whats your favorite 50K or less than 50K race?
I did a quick little survey yesterday of a few select twitter friends and reached out to few celebrities as well. I simply asked them what was their favorite 50k or less than 50k race around the globe. I had quite a good response and here is what Twitter came back with as some of the peoples favorite 50K or less than 50K races.
Ashley Nelson voted for the Quicksilver 50K
When creating the new course for the Quicksilver 50 & 100, we took into consideration course beauty, historic features, elevation gain, sunrise/sunset timing, crew accessibility, aid station optimization, and the overall interaction of the ultra runners during the event. The new 100K, boasts 13,000+ feet of elevation gain and was created from our 2,000+ individual experiences at other ultra marathon events we have experienced over the years.
@Dirtrunner67 voted for the @trlracingovertx 50k & @rundallasdirt #Blazing7s as his favorites.
The Blazing 7s Trail Run is held at the beautiful 7iL ranch just outside of Bellville Texas. The ranch has been open for more than 5 generations and opened in 1999 for public use. The facility is over 1150 acres with water/electric and RV hookups as well.
C2C is a 50 kilometer race with close to 9,000 feet of elevation gain. The course will take you from the scrubland of the Chihuahua desert, through juniper-piñon red clay, and into the forest and clouds. Enjoy epic climbs, stellar views, small town charm and single track bliss at the first and only mountain race in Southern New Mexico!
This is a True Texas Mountain Race on the Franklin Mountains. The races will be run around altitude at 5000′ and climb to 7192′ for the 50k. Most of the trails low are desert trail that is run able terrain with easy technical trail. The climb to the North Franklin Peak is a combination of straight climbing and switchbacks.
Sage Canaday ( pro runner for Hoka ) went with Speedgoat 50k. ( link to his race report )
This 50k race consists of 11,800 of total climbing. The race is all above 7600′, wth the majority above 9200′. This the most technical race east and west of Snowbird Ski Resort. Rocky, Rooty, snowy, very steep hills, even steeper descent, all over nasty, wet rocky terrain. If you like a fast 50k, this race is NOT for you. Needless to say, there is nothing easy about it. Please train adequately for this event. We do not do refunds, so stay healthy and prepare for a fine run through the wildflowers, and one nasty creekbed or two.
For me, I’ve never even done a 50K ( 31 mile give or take ) but its definitely on the cards soon. My longest run / walk to date has been Rough Creek Trail race recently. A tough & super hot 3000 ft of gain over 26.2 miles in 95 degree heat with little to no shade & no where to hide. I walk / ran it in 7 hours 09 minutes so i guess that has to be my favorite. I seem to do well on tough challenging courses when most others DNF and also seem to perform well in the heat. I remember Ironman Texas got into the mid 90’s as well and in my one and only Ironman did an 11:08 with a 4:10 on the run. I look forward to getting and staying healthy and actually one day getting to the ULTRA distance.
Have you done any of these races or have a favorite you don’t see on this list? We would love to hear from you below.
